Many of the events associated with Westminster’s Irish Festival Saturday, which typically attracts about 5,000 people to Downtown Westminster, have been canceled due to the probability of inclement weather, according to the Westminster City Department of Recreation and Parks.
The Celtic Canter 5K run at 9 a.m., 1-mile Leprechaun Chase at 10 a.m., 0.5K run at 11 a.m., and whiskey tasting events for 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. were scheduled to continue as planned as of Friday afternoon.
In addition to those events, a pub crawl from noon-4 p.m., and free trolley rides, from noon-5 p.m., will also remain.
Recreation department director Abby Gruber it would not be practical to reschedule all the events to a different date.
“We have to protect the relationship with our vendors to make sure that they are not losing money,” she said. “There are so many people involved with so many different schedules that it’s impossible to reschedule events of this magnitude.”
Registrations for the running events are still being taken online or in person. For more information, go to https://celticcanter.org.
