Erin Drumheller, BSN, RN, SRNA, who is currently enrolled in the WellSpan Nurse Anesthetist Program at York College of Pennsylvania , was selected to be part of a Case Study Panel Discussion at the Allegheny Anesthetists annual meeting in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on April 7. Drumheller, originally from Sykesville, was scheduled to speak on the topic "Anesthetic Management of a Patient with Trisomy 18 and Tracheoesophageal Fistula." She is one of four student speakers from seven nurse anesthesia programs represented for the case study panel discussion at the meeting.

Sarah Biddinger, of Westminster, a student at McDaniel College in Westminster, participated at the Mid-Atlantic Phi Alpha Theta history honors society conference held March 24 at McDaniel. Biddinger was among nine McDaniel College students selected to present at the conference. Her presentation was titled "The God Fearing Settlers of Jamestown: Efforts to Convert the Powhatans 1606-1623." To be eligible for the honor society, students at McDaniel must be nominated and selected by faculty of the history department, as well as complete a minimum of four courses in history, achieve a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, achieve a minimum GPA of 3.1 in history courses taken at McDaniel, and must be in the top 35 percent of their class.

McDaniel College students were inducted March 25 into the Delta of Maryland Chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society, including: Savannah Dawson, of Westminster; Jacob Holechek, of Union Bridge; Ceanna Hudicka, of Hampstead; Samantha Smith, of Westminster; Chris Shatzer, of Taneytown. The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation's oldest academic honor society.

Abigail Harding, a marine science major from Sykesville, helped host Coastal Carolina University's TEAL Youth Day on March 23, on CCU's campus. More than 130 elementary and middle school students who are part of the Dalton and Linda Floyd Mentoring Program at CCU attended the event. The event provides children and youth participating in the mentoring program the opportunity to visit a college campus and to see where their mentors go to school. CCU student mentors normally visit children at their school each week.
