McDaniel College to celebrate graduates through virtual ceremonies, May 23

On the week that should have led up to their graduation, McDaniel College’s 2020 seniors will be celebrating in different ways, with in-person events canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Celebration Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, when more than 500 graduate and undergraduate students would have gathered for ceremonies on campus. Four main livestream events throughout the day will focus on students’ accomplishments.

Starting at 12:30 p.m., departments and graduate programs will break into individual online receptions. Then at 4 p.m., they will come back together for the traditional Bell Ringing with McDaniel College President Roger N. Casey.

Casey and Alumni Council President Chuck Sullivan ’72 will address the class and Sullivan will welcome them into their new role as alumni. This event will be streamed through Facebook Live.

A slideshow of moments celebrating the class of 2020 will play on the college’s website throughout the day.

McDaniel also dedicated the week leading up to celebrating the students through a social media “senior week.” They spotlighted students, asked trivia questions and asked students to send in photos wearing spirit gear. The college’s accounts can be found on Facebook, @McDanielCollege Twitter, and @Go2McDaniel on Instagram.
