The second round of voting to name the new Carroll Community College mascot has begun.
After Carroll Community College began a process of introducing an intercollegiate sports program in October, college president James Ball appointed a Mascot Selection Committee to develop and implement a process to identify the mascot and create the athletic logo, according to a news release from the college.
The college plans to offer men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s soccer beginning fall 2019 in its first phase. Other programs under consideration for future phases may include lacrosse, baseball and softball, according to the release.
Criteria applied by the committee included a requirement that the mascot be unique in Carroll County and not duplicate a mascot used by nearby colleges or universities or by a competitor in Region XX of the NJCAA athletic conference, according to the release.
This vote, which runs until 3 p.m. Dec. 6, will identify the two most popular names that will then move forward to a final vote by the college’s students, faculty and staff exclusively.
