Bloch receives leadership award

Nicholas Bloch, a student at South Carroll High School, received the All-Time Leadership Award at the Maryland Region Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar held at Mount St. Mary's University. The seminar is designed for high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace, and community. Bloch was selected from more than 250 students as one of two students to represent Maryland at the World Leaders Conference in Chicago in July.

Bloch has played boys junior varsity soccer at South Carroll High School for two years. This past season, he was a captain of the JV team and was moved to varsity at the end of the season. He plays club soccer on Central Carroll United out of Carroll County, having been starting goalie for the past seven seasons. Bloch also played JV basketball and is a member of the National Honor Society Executive Board. He was also instrumental in the planning and implementation of South Carroll's recent student-directed assembly, "Everybody Has a Story." Bloch has earned service hours as a volunteer youth swim coach and as a counselor at his church's vacation Bible school. He is currently working at Health Unlimited as a swim instructor.
