Ginza Japanese Steak House offers entertaining dining experience

I am sure I am not the only one who loves watching a meal cooked in an entertaining or amusing way.

One of my favorite places to go for this kind of enjoyable dining experience is Ginza Japanese Steak House in the Valley Centre shopping center on Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills.

As you walk in the door of Ginza Japanese Steak House, you are greeted with the sights, sounds and smells of amazing food being prepared and enjoyed.

Each table has seating for 12 to 16 people. Once your whole table has been seated and each person's individual order taken, you will be served a garden salad with homemade Japanese dressing and a bowl of chicken soup — both of which are complementary — while you wait for your chef.

Then, a chef will arrive at the table with a cart loaded with ingredients for a tasty and wonderful meal. Your chef will do more than just prepare your meal in front of you — he will entertain you, too.

First, he usually makes a flaming volcano from the fresh cut rings of an onion. Then he will blow smoke signals from it. Once he is done he will chop the onion with great showmanship in front of everyone and begin adding other ingredients to prepare homemade fried rice in front of you.

He might even spin the egg on the end of a spatula and crack it while it's spinning.

Once the fried rice is cooking, he will begin to prepare the shrimp, fish, chicken and beef everyone has ordered. I personally like my steak cooked medium. The chef will ask periodically if the meat is done enough for each person. Nothing like a custom cooked steak, right?

Each table receives a complementery fried shrimp appetizer, also prepared in front of the diners. Once that shrimp is prepared, the chef will not only serve each person his or her portion of the shrimp, but will also flip shrimp off the spatula into waiting guests' mouths. It's hysterical to watch.

Ginza Japanese Steak House offers such amazing dinners as teriyaki chicken, New York steak, mahi mahi fish, and filet mignon.

Combination dinners include chicken and shrimp, steak and shrimp, steak and chicken, and filet mignon and shrimp — there is a combination to please a wide range of tastebuds.

Ginza Japanese Steakhouse also offers fresh raw fish maki, a form of sushi, in a range of varities, from a tuna roll to an Alaskan roll.

The restaurant also offers vegetable maki, including a cucumber roll, an asparagus roll and a sweet potato roll. Cooked maki include a California roll, a deep fried oyster roll, a Green Dragon roll and a San Francisco roll.

The restaurant offers a la cart sushi, as well, including sweet shrimp, fresh tuna, squid, and crab meat.

All Ginza Japanese Steakhouse ingredients are fresh and most of the meals are prepared right in front of you. Some of the rolls are prepared ahead of time but with fresh ingredients.

Ginza Japanese Steakhouse is at 9616 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills.

It is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
