David Vogt: Strong desire to serve others

When I was a boy, I first learned what the word "service" meant through my experiences volunteering in my grandmother's church. As I grew, joined the Marine Corps in 2004 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010, it was that same understanding of the word that drove me. I had a desire to serve my country, to serve my friends and neighbors, and to serve the everlasting idea of liberty, freedom, and the American Dream.

It is that same desire and passion for serving others that led to me declaring my candidacy for House of Delegates, District 4 as a Republican.

My ultimate goal is to go to Annapolis to fight for you and your family, not Big Government or my own personal interests. Instead of growing the size of government and furthering the flawed liberal tax-and-spend ideology, we should be focused on growing personal freedom and making Maryland one of the most business and consumer-friendly states in the station.

As a state, we are taxed enough already. As a Delegate, I will never once vote to raise your taxes. Instead, I will work to lower taxes across-the-board, relieve the tax burden on individuals and businesses alike, and help reinvigorate our economy by taking government's hands out of your pockets and allowing you to keep more of what you earn.

Similarly, I will fight efforts to place more ill-conceived regulations on Maryland's businesses. These regulations unduly burden small businesses as they fight to grow and become competitive in today's marketplace. I am a firm believer in the idea that the economy grows the most and businesses do the best when government steps out of the way. It's time to end the anti-business policies coming from Annapolis, and reinvent Maryland as a business-friendly state.

This same attitude applies to the government's relationship with the farming community. Agriculture is an extremely important industry in Carroll and Frederick counties. I am committed to our agriculture community, and in Annapolis I will fight for policies that expand the industry, not contract it. What we need is a government that promotes agriculture and opens doors of opportunity, not a government constantly seeking to place new regulations and taxes on our farms.

Maryland currently ranks 49th in terms of personal freedom compared to other states. This is outrageous. As a Marine who swore an oath to "support and defend the United States Constitution," I believe that a cornerstone of the American idea is that personal freedom should always be growing, not contracting. I will oppose any and all measures that seek to unconstitutionally grow the size and power of government while taking away your personal freedom.

The recent gun control legislation is a perfect example of an unconstitutional government power grab. The Second Amendment is very clear, and I will always fight for your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

I am a firm believer in the idea that good and effective government occurs when the government serves the people, not when the people serve the government. As Delegate, I will fight for and work towards a government that is responsive to the needs of you and your family. I will fight against the O'Malley-Brown tax-and-spend agenda that has driven our state deeper into debt, prevented our economy from growing, and hurt many Maryland families.

The state of Maryland has tremendous potential for economic prosperity and job creation, but first we must reject this idea that government can tax, spend, and regulate us into this prosperity. I am ready to lead this fight.

I invite you to visit our website at www.VogtForMaryland to find out more about me and my campaign. I am committed to forming a conservative coalition to challenge the status quo in Annapolis, and I want your support and enthusiasm. On our site, you can find my cell phone number; please give me a call anytime if you want to discuss the campaign, what we can do to get Maryland back on track, or if there is any way I can serve you and your family.

Sincerely and Semper Fidelis,

David Vogt
