Elks host Flag Day ceremony

A Flag Day ceremony will be held Sunday at the Westminster Lodge 2277 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.

The lodge will provide a history of our country's flag and discuss the significance of our flag's heritage, and students involved in the JROTC program at Winters Mill High are scheduled to assist in this program.

Commissioner Haven Shoemaker, R-District 2, will address the assembly with his views on the importance of the flag. Color guard and members of Carroll American Legion Post 31 will perform an official retirement ceremony for worn and weathered flags no longer in service.

The ceremony is open to the public. It begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the lodge, located at 538 Gorsuch Road, adjacent to the Olive Garden on Md. 140.
