Irene L. Callahan, 91, formerly of Westminster

Irene Loretta Callahan, 91, formerly of Westminster and Baldwin, N.Y., died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Copper Ridge in Sykesville.

Born Oct. 5, 1922, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Mary Theiss Sullivan. She was the wife of John Francis Callahan, who died in 2003.

She was a secretary for the American Society of Civil Engineers. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed reading, walking, golf, music and especially dancing.

Surviving are children Patricia Kempf and husband William, of Westminster, Sharon Callahan Kennedy and husband Thomas, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John Kevin Callahan, of Palm Desert, Calif.; grandchildren Christine Kempf and husband Douglas Harris, of Westminster, Jennifer Kempf, of Hanover, Pa., Elizabeth Kennedy, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Julia Kennedy and husband Karl Adam, of Washington, D.C., Mathew Kennedy, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Kaya Callahan, of California; and great-grandchildren Zoe and Maya Kempf-Harris and Astrid Kennedy-Adam.

She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Sullivan.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, with the Rev. Neville O'Donahue as celebrant. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Ellicott City.
