Inmate taken to hospital after stabbing self in neck

An inmate of the Carroll County Detention Center was taken to the hospital Wednesday where he underwent emergency surgery for apparent self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck.

Gregory Deitrich Green, 34, of New Windsor was reported to be in stable but serious condition, according to a news release from Warden George Hardinger.

Police investigations indicated that wounds were made using a blade from a disposable razor that Green apparently attempted to cut his wrist with, then made a deep cut on the left side of his neck. Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police personnel determined the wounds were self-inflicted.

Correctional officers and medical staff responded immediately and care was provided while awaiting the arrival of the emergency medical technicians and while the ambulance was en route to the hospital, according to the release.

Green was taken to emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and he remained in the critical care unit Thursday.

Green was arrested March 18 for violating a protective order March 12, and was being held on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in District Court in June.
