Church events provide fellowship opportunities

If your cabin fever is getting a bit high, Messiah United Methodist Church is offering two opportunities for fellowship during Meet Our Missionary Night Feb. 22 and Mardi Gras Night March 1, with both events beginning at the church at 5:30 p.m.

The Rev. Brenda Shields, pastor, said Victor Taryor, a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, will talk about the work he does during Meet Our Missionary Night.

Taryor works as a hospital administrator at Ganta Hospital in Liberia, Africa, a position the Messiah UMC congregation has supported for a number of years, as the congregation also supported Taryor's predecessor.

The following week, the Evangelism Committee will be hosting Mardi Gras Night for those who would like to celebrate and feast prior to the penitential ritual fasting of the Lenten season. The event includes a game night where people can play their favorite games, something the congregation does every so often, said Shields.

Participants to either event are asked to bring a covered dish to share; drinks will be provided.

The church is at 20 Middle St. in Taneytown.
