"Being in South Carroll's Next Top Model motivates me to be more fashionable," Nick Matheson wrote for his bio in the program for South Carroll's Next Top Model competition. Whether tongue in cheek or serious, the audience must have thought him plenty fashionable as they voted him South Carroll's Next Top Model Feb. 23 at South Carroll High School.

The four male and six female contestants modeled several outfits during the evening, before the audience cast votes for the top model.

The event was a fundraiser for the Multicultural Club at the school.

According to senior Dee Dee Okoye, a member of the club and one of the organizers of the evening, this was the third year for the program, which is based on the TV show "America's Next Top Model."

"The contestants will model patriotic wear, all-black wear, different country styles, where each contestant was assigned a country to represent, and evening wear," Okoye said.

After the live modeling and prior to the voting, a slide show with each model's photo shoot was presented on the theater screen. The slide show was designed by Stephanie Feinberg and the photographer was Pamela Cooper.

During wardrobe changes, entertainment was provided by Chloe Antulov, winner of last year's South Carroll Idol contest, who sang "Someone Like You" by Adele and Taylor Reiland sang "Do You Know" by Julio Iglesias in Spanish. An impromptu performance of "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles was done by Reiland on piano and Phoebe Fetzer on vocals.

Once the audience cast their votes via tickets purchased during intermission, the winners were announced as: second runner-up, senior Mary Reitz, and first runner-up, sophomore Carissa Cowman. Junior Nick Matheson was crowned South Carroll's Next Top Model.
