Christian rock band Willet to play at Eldersburg church

If you're looking for some inspiration, the youth group of Faith Lutheran Church in Eldersburg will host the Christian rock band Willet from 7 to 8 p.m. March 28.

Youth group leader Elaine Wells said, "Our youth group had seen them at River Valley Ranch [in Millers] numerous times, when they went on winter retreat. They just loved them."

Willet is a local band that has performed all over the world.

"It's a Christian band, they're local, and we like to support them," Wells said.

The concert at Faith Lutheran is open to everyone. Admission is free, although a freewill offering will be accepted to support the band in its mission of serving people globally through music, preaching and projects.

In addition, Willet merchandise will be available for purchase.

Free light refreshments will be served.

According to the band's website, "Over the past 8 years, Willet has had the opportunity to mobilize over 450,000 nutritious meals for school feeding programs worldwide while also raising over $8 million for community development projects through child sponsorship."

The Faith Lutheran Church youth group is for students in grades 6 to 12. They participate in a mix of service activities and fun events. Wells said, "We went tubing; we go on retreats. We cooked four meals for our church's freezer ministry this week." The group meets at 7 p.m. Fridays at the church.

Art auction

The Arts Boosters of Century High School invite the community to participate in a Decorative Art Auction in the school cafeteria from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Century students have submitted items that they created for the silent auction. Everyone is invited to come and bid.

At last year's event, there was a bidding war over a coffee-table mosaic made by then-junior Mara Wedekind, according to an email from Arts Boosters President Veneese Sebastian. She also reported that the 2013 event raised more than $400.

Proceeds from the auction go to support college scholarships. Scholarships are awarded annually to two Arts Honor Society seniors.
