College offers Beekeeping Basics Class

Carroll Community College's Continuing Education and Training will offer a class on beekeeping for profit, fun or for growing your garden.

Participants may learn about getting started, necessary equipment and assembly, honey bee biology, seasonal management, swarm collecting, re-queening instruction and diseases.

A hands-on lab provides honey extraction demonstration, open hive inspection and equipment building.

The class will be held from Feb. 20 through March 20 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (five sessions). The college is located at 1601 Washington Road in Westminster. The room is K100A. On March 9, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m, the class will meet at the Hashawha Apiary.

The class number is SBA-622-A3. The cost is $60 per family. The cost includes the textbook and a one-year membership in the Carroll County Beekeepers Association. The class is appropriate for children ages 10 and older who are accompanied by an adult. The class is offered in partnership with the Carroll County Beekeepers Association.
