Welcome to the new year! Are you tired of being cooped up in the winter weather?

If you are, the South Carroll Senior and Community Center has a pleasant diversion for you: The center will be hosting its annual Cabin Fever Party lunch at noon Jan. 16.

"We've done it for a number of years," center manager Karen Larrimore said. "We figured it would get everybody out and back into the swing of things."

Because it's a celebration, a special lunch of fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, broccoli and apple pie will be served. The center must get your lunch reservation by Jan. 8.

The meal costs $3.42 for anyone younger than 60. If you are 60 or older, you may make a donation to offset the cost of your meal, up to $3.42.

Even if you don't feel like having lunch, you can come for the program of songs by local entertainer Wayne Winemiller at 12:30 p.m.

The center will also be offering its usual Thursday programs that day, as well as blood pressure checks from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The center is open to seniors age 60 or older and their spouses and to those who are disabled and age 50 or older. To become a senior center member, fill out a free registration form at the center.

To get more information or to make lunch reservations, call the center at 410-386-3700.

The South Carroll Senior and Community Center is at 5928 Mineral Hill Road, Eldersburg.
