'Hairspray' bounces into Toby's

Toby's of Baltimore is now presenting "Hairspray," that darling and sassy Broadway musical based on Baltimore filmmaker John Waters 1988 film.

This wonderful show is set in Baltimore in the early 1960s.

Tracy Turnblad (Celia Blitzer) is an aspiring performer who would love to be on the hit afternoon dance show, "The Corny Collins Show." (Chad Wheeler plats Collins.)

It is hard for Tracy to believe that people would be so prejudiced against overweight or black people that they won't let them on the show.

Most of you have seen the movie or the Broadway production, but for those of you that haven't, the story revolves around the eventual integration of the dance show.

But in the beginning when Tracy belt's out "Good Morning Baltimore" you know you're in for a good time. That girl and the company can really sing.

The Toby's of Baltimore crew brings out all the energy and thought-provoking questions as the 1960s as cultural changes begin.

So come on down to Toby's of Baltimore Dinner Theatre as they play this rousing musical about the underdogs getting their fair due.

"Hairspray" is at Toby's of Baltimore until July 1.

Another classic show, "Grease" will be rolling into Toby's mid-July.

So, get your poodle skirts, bobby sox, and saddle shoes out of storage and go to Toby's for a good old time!
