McDaniel College's students once again demonstrated their skill and acumen in the international arena by bringing home awards from the 2013 mid-Atlantic regional Arab League conference. Held November 9 and 10, 2013 on the Georgetown University campus, eighteen colleges participated in the conference, with each college representing an arab nation. The McDaniel students represented Iraq.
The debates enhance the students' knowledge and understanding of the arab nations while honing their analysis, writing, and speaking skills. They engage in the art of argument and debate in an international forum on defense, the environment, social issues and other political concerns.
Junior year student Cody Knipfer of Ellicott City, Md and sophomore year student Cole Harris of Timonium, Md. were honored as outstanding delegates in the Iraqi Defense Council. Senior Phoebe McHale of Collegeville, Pa., and sophomore Bilal Ali of Hadley, Mass., won the best delegation award. Sophomore Claire Lawson of McMinnville, Ore., Keegan Farley of Hampstead, Md., and John Collins of Easton, Md., and Ali and McHale won honorable mention awards for representation of Iraq in the Council of Arab Social Affairs Ministers. McDaniel students were advised by assistant professor Anouar Boukhars.,
