The Ravens signed former Notre Dame running back Cierre Wood to a reserve/future contract Wednesday.
Wood spent time with the Houston Texans and later the New England Patriots this season after going undrafted in last year's NFL draft.
He was active for three games with the Texans, but he was released along with two other rookies over a violation of team rules.
He was signed to the Patriots' practice squad in November, but he was released Dec. 27.
With Baltimore, Wood will compete for a reserve running back job behind Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.
Wood rushed for 1,102 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior at Notre Dame in 2011 and averaged 6.5 yards per carry as a senior.
He measured in at 5-foot-11, 213 pounds at last year's NFL scouting combine. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds.
