Jean V. A. Shaw, 84, of Westminster

Jean Virginia Anzulovic Shaw, 84, of Westminster, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at the Carroll Hospital Center.

Born on Nov. 19, 1927, in DeMoines, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late James Venceslav and Bertha Tessie Mann Anzulovic.

She earned her bachelor's and master's degree as an education reading specialist from Western Maryland College. She began her teaching career at Owings Mills Elementary School, then went to Francis Scott Key High School and retired as an English teacher from Westminster High School in 1989.

She was a member of the National Education Association, Mensa International, American Association of University Women, the Optimist Club, Reading is Fundamental and was former president of the Lady Elks.

She enjoyed knitting, painting, doing needlework and watching British TV. She traveled the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica and was an avid reader.

Surviving are daughters Barbara Anne Shaw, of Owings Mills; Marion Virginia Wielgosz, of Lutherville; and Nancy Elizabeth Hart, of Hyattsville; siblings James V. Anzulovic Jr., of Montgomery, Ala.; Janice V. Burnside, of Florida; and Jerome V. Anzulovic, of College Park; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sons Andrew James Shaw and Marshall Alfred Shaw.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

Interment will be private in St. James Cemetery.
