The area has been experiencing some damaging storms lately, some even producing tornadoes. Tornadoes haven't been all that common in our area, but within just the past couple weeks there have been multiple instances of tornadoes being seen. Because of this, it is very important that you and your family create, or revisit, a plan in case of future tornado warnings.
If you are inside, head to the lowest level of your home and stay away from all doors or windows. If you are in your car, and are able to drive away from the tornado, do that. If not, the Weather Channel suggests to "get out of the car and into a ditch. If you do that, you should get far enough away from the car that it doesn't tumble onto you. Being below the prevailing ground level may shield you from some of the tornado wind and flying debris, but there is still danger from those."
It is incredibly important to have a plan in place, and to practice it, so everyone is prepared. If you have been reading the news, you know that tornadoes can be incredibly deadly. By taking the proper precautions you increase the chances of keeping your family safe.
