Congratulations to Frank Batavick, the New Windsor Heritage Committee member who wrote, produced and directed the Emmy Award-winning DVD, "Time's Crossroads: The History of New Windsor, MD."
Batavick was presented with the Emmy Award at the 54th Annual Emmy Awards of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter, held June 16 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
The 49-minute production chronicles New Windsor's history from the wilderness of 1790 to modern times. Of the 10 entries in the documentary-historical category, seven were nominated for the award.
Before being named winner of the Emmy, Batavick wrote in an online communication: "Competition is pretty stiff ... but just to be nominated is an honor." After winning, Batavick thanked supporters and contributors and acknowledged them "and especially the memory of Julia Cairns, to whom I dedicated the award."
Julia Ann Roop Cairns was a charter member of the New Windsor Heritage Committee. The Cairns Gallery in the New Windsor Museum is named in her memory.
