Earl Wilson Hess Jr., 84, of Sykesville, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at home.
Born Jan. 6, 1928, in Alberton, he was the son of the late Earl W. Hess Sr. and Mary Miller Hofstetter.
He worked for Baltimore city in road maintenance. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic High School. He belonged to the VFW in Hampden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and going to Pimlico Race Track.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Patterson, of Sykesville; a brother-in-law, Ben Williams, of Brooklyn Park; nieces and nephews Sandy Williams, Paul Williams, Deborah and Bud Herndon, Terry and Ann Patterson, and Cheryl Thompson; and great-nieces and great-nephews Kim Benson, Brad Herndon, Todd Gori, and Adam, Jessica and Riley Patterson.
He was predeceased by a stepmother, Mae Hess; a stepfather, Joseph Hofstetter; a brother-in-law, Gayle Patterson; and sisters Helen Williams and Maryln Hess.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service, 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. David Schafer, from St. Benjamin's (Kriders) Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be private.
