Sykesville Gate House Museum opens new B&O Railroad exhibit

A history student and author of an eight-article series on the B&O Railroad will be giving a presentation about railroad disasters in the 19th century in Sykesville.

The March 27 talk comes following a recent exhibit called "Gone Off the Rails - When Safety Fails," from the Sykesville Gate House Museum, according to a release from the Gate House Museum. August Hutchinson is a history major at Middlebury College and also studied history at Johns Hopkins University. He also won the Herbert E. Pickett Prize for General Proficiency in history at the Gilman School.

His eight-article series, "A Dangerous Ride," was featured on the B&O Railroad Museum's blog, http://borailroad.blogspot.com, last summer, according to the release.

He will be speaking from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at the Sykesville Town House. The program is free, but registration is encouraged. To register call 410-549-5150 or email the curator of the museum, Mark Fraser, at mfraser@sykesville.net.
