At 6:28 p.m. EST, all the 2013 Hall of Fame inductees were on field for the coin toss. I thought head referee Jerome Boger was getting inducted when the camera panned to him next at the end of the line.
The Ravens won the toss and chose to defer.
First 49ers drive: Kaepernick threw a first-down pass to Vernon Davis, but an illegal formation brought it back. San Francisco goes 3-and-out and punt it away.
Loud Seven Nation Army chants during that punt return so it sounds like more of a pro-Ravens crowd as expected.
Ravens strike first. Anquan Boldin, one of the few Ravens with Super Bowl experience, scores the first TD of the game.
The first round of commercials features Budweiser, M&M's, and Audi. Audi's featured a guy going to prom in his dad's Audi, getting to prom and kissing the prom queen, and then going home with a black eye courtesy of the prom king.
After a kickoff, we get Hyundai, GoDaddy.com, and Doritos commercials. Doritos wins this round with a commercial featuring a goat eating all of its owners Doritos.
CBS has a new interface for the game. Instead of a scoreboard that stretches across the entire screen, the new one is smaller and takes up less space across the screen. I like it.
Oreo had a commercial where everybody in a library was fighting about which part of an Oreo is better: creme or cookie. It was right up there with Doritos for the best commercial of the night so far.
The first quarter ends with the Ravens leading 7-3, after a quarter that went by relatively quickly. The 49ers defense has been getting to Flacco but, until the sack to end the quarter, Flacco has been successful in escaping the pocket and completing passes downfield.
