This week I am going to tell you about another Reisterstown staple. It's tucked away, yet right on Main Street.
Tucked inside the Landmark Shopping Center is a wonderful place called "Reter's Crab House & Grille." The store front has a couple of umbrella tables outside where you can sit and enjoy the great outdoors. Inside will transport you to your favorite beach town resort. The bar and walls are decorated with surf boards and other beach-themed items such as painted crab shells, beach flags, fishing nets, and of course Ravens' items.
The owner is Brad Reter and his dad, Calvin, seems like the unofficial ambassador of Reisterstown: if Calvin is in a good mood and you get him talking, you can get a great history lesson on Reisterstown.
Their menu is packed with amazing seafood dishes; of course they carry steamed crabs, crab cakes, crab dip, crab imperial, whole lobsters, clams, oysters and burgers, too.
Their starters or appetizers include buffalo chicken strips, coconut shrimp, kettle chips, mozzarella sticks, onion loaf, and of course they have a sampler with a selection of all their great starters.
Lunchtimes offers a number of great specials, including sandwiches, wraps and salads. For a seafood restaurant, their grilled prime rib sandwich will have you wondering if you have mistakenly walked into a steak house. Did I mention that they have fire-grilled pizzas too? The crab pizza is yummy.
They have a raw and steamer bar which offers a choice of oysters, clams, shrimp and mussels. If you want them steamed, it isn't a problem - they will do that for you too.
Each Monday through Thursday evening, they have a different dinner special for diners. Monday nights you can get a whole pound-and-a-quarter lobster dinner. Tuesday nights is all-you-can-eat shrimp that comes with soup and salad. Wednesday nights you can order sliced bourbon glazed prime rib, and Thursday nights offer selected burgers for $5. Seriously folks: a fresh burger -- most burgers at fast food places are close to five bucks these days and nowhere near as tasty as Reter's.
Saturdays and Sundays they offer a brunch which includes all you can eat steamed or raw oysters for $15.99. The brunch is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes oyster sandwiches, oysters Rockefeller, oyster stew and an amazing bloody mary.
They offer Happy Hour from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Happy hour at Reter's is always fun, with discounted drinks and food specials - and who wouldn't love a half a pound of steamed shrimp for $4.99? That's right: $4.99.
I have my share of favorites there. I do love their burgers, the surf and turf burger being my favorite. This sandwich is a half pound Angus burger topped with lump crab meat and cheese. Oh my goodness is it ever delicious. I like their cream of crab soup - it's thick, rich and has just a bit of spice. But my go-to favorite is the tropical salad, which has a bed of mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, coconut shrimp, pineapple wedges and oranges topped with their homemade raspberry vinaigrette dressing.
Reter's also offers a fresh fish and seafood market right there on site.
You will find Reter's at 509 Main Street in Reisterstown in the Landmark Shopping Center.
