AXA Advisors LLC, which provides financial services for consumers and businesses, announced that Josephine Grant, from Francis Scott Key High School, was chosen to receive $10,000 as the Maryland winner of the 2013 AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with
U.S. News & World Report
Grant is one of 52 students, one from each state plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, who have been awarded scholarships of $10,000.
Scholarship recipients are graduating high school seniors who demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, and the ability to succeed in college.
Grant started Josie's Smiles for Pediatrics, a philanthropic organization to encourage local and national businesses to donate to the pediatric unit of her local hospital. She was able to provide toys, games, books, stuffed animals, receiving blankets, baby bottles and other items for the Family Birthplace and Women's Center units of Carroll Hospital Center.
