The eighth annual Ribbon Run will take place Sunday beginning at noon at the Arcadia fire company carnival grounds.
This motorcycle ride event is a fundraiser for Debbie's Dream Team, a nonprofit that raises money to support the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in honor of Debbie Peregoy, who passed away in 2006 from breast cancer.
"Soon after my mother passed, we, family and close friends, decided to start a Relay for Life Team. In the initial meetings and brainstorming for fundraising ideas, I said 'I'll do a motorcycle ride,''' Brett Peregoy, Debbie Peregoy's son and event coordinator, wrote in an email. "Riding helped me take my mind off the bad things in life and focus on the good. I knew a motorcycle ride would be a good way to raise money for our team because there are many kindhearted in the motorcycle community that enjoy supporting a cause."
Since 2007, Debbie's Dream Team has raised more than $150,000 through a variety of annual events such as a tea hosted by Debbie's mom, Anna May Schaffer, the Ribbon Run and a dunking booth at Hampstead Day.
Registration for the Ribbon Run will take place from 10 a.m. until noon the day of the event. The entry fee is a minimum donation of $15 per person and includes a cookout-style dinner that will be served beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the carnival grounds. Dinner is open for those not participating in the ride for a $10 donation.
Although the Ribbon Run was begun as a motorcycle event, it is open to any type of street legal vehicle — classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars — and all are welcome.
"The ride this year is a checkpoint style ride where riders will go to predetermined locations (checkpoints) collecting items along the way. When the riders return, they will see if their item combinations match the winning combinations for three top prizes," Peregoy wrote. Riders must receive their final stamp at the Arcadia carnival grounds by 4 p.m. to be eligible to win a prize.
The carnival grounds are at 16020 Carnival Ave., Arcadia.
