Mount Airy Lions to offer annual carnival

The Mount Airy Lions Club will have its 73rd annual carnival June 2-7 at the Mount Airy carnival grounds, from 5:30 to 11 nightly.

Ben Gue, president of the Mount Airy Lions Club, said, "I would like to thank everyone in advance, for all of their support. Without everyone's generosity, our projects and donations would not be possible."

This is the club's largest fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds benefit a variety of community projects throughout the year.

Food will be served nightly, and there will be a variety of entertainment throughout the week: Monday, June 2 - Trilogy, rock and roll and country; Tuesday, June 3 - Whitehouse Effect, contemporary rock and roll; Wednesday, June 4 - Hard Swimmin' Fish, blues; Thursday, June 5 - The McDuffees, country and top 40; Friday, June 6 - The Fabuous Bel Airs, '50s and '60s rock and roll; and Saturday, June 7 - The Knight Brothers, country, gospel and light rock.

Discounted ride tickets are available at Ben Gue Gifts and Collectibles at 4 S. Main St., Mount Airy, for $12 each. The tickets, which entitle you to ride all night, must be purchased in advance and are good for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night.

Business lunch

Business Network International offers a networking opportunity for professionals and business owners every Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mt. Airy Tavern. The next meeting will be June 6.

Those attending choose from the menu and pay for their own meal while attending the meeting and being able to network with others.

Visitors are always welcome free of charge; however, if you wish to become a member of BNI there is a membership fee.

Be sure to bring at least 40 business cards with you to share with other professionals and business owners.

If you have never attended before or have questions, you should contact Tim Barkley at 301-606-5905, as you will be given an opportunity to introduce yourself and the services you provide during the meeting.

Dinner at Legion

American Legion Auxiliary Gold Star Unit 191 will host an all-you-can-eat dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Legion. The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs and barbecue as well as an assortment of sides, drinks and desserts.

The cost is: adults, $12; ages 5 to 12, $6; and children younger than 5, free.

The profit will go toward various auxiliary programs.

Blood drive

Calvary Lutheran Church and Lisbon fire company will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 2 to 7:30 p.m. June 3 at the fire company social hall.
