Carroll Community offering class for families on beekeeping

Carroll Community College's Continuing Education and Training will offer a class on beekeeping for profit, fun or for growing your garden.

Participants can learn about getting started, necessary equipment and assembly, honey bee biology, seasonal management, swarm collecting, re-queening instruction and diseases. A hands-on lab will provide a honey extraction demonstration, open hive inspection and information on building equipment.

The class will be held in five sessions at Carroll Community College Wednesday through March 20 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. On March 9, there will be a morning class at the Hashawha Apiary in Westminster.

The cost is $60 per family and includes the textbook and a one-year membership in the Carroll County Beekeepers Association. The class is appropriate for children ages 10 and older who are accompanied by an adult. The class is offered in partnership with the Carroll County Beekeepers Association.
