Ruth's Chris Steak House held the 16th annual Sizzling Celebrity Golf Classic Sept. 24. Despite the chilly below-average 40 degree morning temperature, as the day progressed, temperatures warmed up and the 114 golfers enjoyed a great day of golf and camaraderie on the lush green links of Woodholme Country Club.
Winning golf teams:
1st place: Team Ruth's Chris
2nd place: Team Care First
3rd place: Team Macy's
Congrats all! Actually all the golfers were winners with an enjoyable day of golf plus a great dinner reception. An added bonus, all proceeds benefited a very worthwhile charity, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
After a full day of golf, the venue was Darlene and Steve de Castro's attractive Crystal Room at Ruth's Chris Steak House, located in Pikesville.
More camaraderie, plus bountiful tasty drinks, great hors d'oeuvre and naturally, a very delicious dinner, was enjoyed by everyone.
Personable Charley Crowson, ABC Channel 2 was the emcee.
In memory of a 2012 hero honored this evening, there was an emotional loving memorial tribute to Melody Tagliaferri Cronin by her loving bereaved husband, Ben Cronin. Together, they were active with the LLS Society and parents of an adorable two-year-old son. Melody, a spokesperson for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, unfortunately, at a very young age, succumbed this past February, from blood cancer.
Our community and this columnist extend our sincerest and deepest condolences to the entire Tagliaferri and Cronin families.

Note: There are four different types of blood cancer leukemia: acute lymphocytic, acute myelogenous, chronic lymphocytic and chronic myelogenous.
Physicians do not know the causes of most leukemia. They do know, that once the bone marrow cell undergoes a leukemia change, the leukemia cells may grow and survive better than normal cells.
Approximately every four minutes, one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
An estimated 1,129,813 people in the United States are living with or thankfully are in remission from leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
Again, thanks to Ruth's Chris Steak House and the National and our local Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for their continuous involvement and dedication in their untiring attempts/efforts to the eradication blood diseases in our lifetime.
