BALTIMORE - Orioles manager Buck Showalter tried to pretend he didn't see first baseman Chris Davis break a bat over his knee following a strikeout in Tuesday night's game against Tampa Bay.

Davis channeled his inner Bo Jackson and snapped his bat in anger when he struck out swinging to end the third inning. Earlier in the at-bat, Davis lost his grip swinging through a pitch and his bat went sailing out beyond first base. Davis got a new stick, but it didn't last very long.

"Honestly, I'd just like to be able to do it myself," Showalter said before Wednesday's game. "What are you going to do? Yeah, it's risky. I think I'd be more inclined to, let's do something that kept us from being that mad, and take that pitch. It's not the first guy or the last guy.

"There's a couple guys I don't worry about doing it."

Davis didn't seem to hurt himself - he's in the lineup tonight against unbeaten Rays left-hander Matt Moore, who has yet to allow a run in 11 1-3 innings this season.
