Letter: Dangerous threats are going ignored

For many years I have seen news stories of Islamic radicals killing and injuring tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children for the glory of Allah in many countries around the world. Yet the news media repeat the mantra that Islam is a religion of peace and we should not blame or take any action against the millions of Islamic worshipers for the horrible actions of a few thousand misguided individuals.

One public prosecutor in Tennessee is even reported to have said that the act of speaking against Islam can be considered a hate crime.

Yet, when a mentally ill person takes a gun and shoots unarmed individuals in a school or movie theater, the news media attack all gun owners while federal and state governments rush to implement new restrictions on the rights of law-abiding legal citizens of this country.

The irrational fear of guns has even resulted in a 10-day suspension of an 11-year-old child for speaking the word "gun" on a school bus in Calvert County.

My question, why are the news media and governments so quick to disparage, attack and restrict the actions of law-abiding citizens and legal gun owners while ignoring far more dangerous threats to this nation?
