Easter Bunny coming to Manchester for fundraiser

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail and heading straight for Manchester.

He'll be on hand for Manchester Valley High School Key Club's annual Spring into Spring event being held Saturday, rain or shine, at the school.

The fun begins at 10:30 a.m. in the courtyard outside the MVHS cafeteria. Activities are geared toward elementary-age children and younger and include egg dying, making bead bracelets, face painting, relay races, yard games and chalk drawing.

At noon, kids will be invited to walk over to the football field for an Easter egg hunt with more than 1,000 plastic eggs, filled with stickers and candy or a small toy, to "find." The hunt will be divided into four age groups: 2 and younger, 3 to 4 years old, 5 to 6 and 7 to 10. Everyone should bring their own basket or container to collect the eggs.

Light refreshments will be for sale at Spring into Spring. Pictures with the Easter Bunny and tickets for a cakewalk will be available for $1.

If there is inclement weather, activities will happen in the school cafeteria and the egg hunt will take place in the media center.

Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted. "Key Club has already fundraised to purchase all the supplies, so any donations or money made at the event are being given to John Hopkins Children's Center. Last year we were able to donate over $400 from generous donations and money we raised at other events. The facility then uses it to buy toys and craft supplies for the children to use while staying at the hospital," Stacy Mann, Key Club adviser, wrote in an email.

"Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership," Mann wrote. "Manchester Valley High School members have helped with telethons, gone trick-or-treating for UNICEF, volunteered at Special Olympics, and helped organize our school's participation in the Polar Bear Plunge."

MVHS is at 3300 Maple Grove Road, Manchester.
