Phyllis Lee Smith, 65, of New Windsor, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born March 24, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Kitty Harbaugh Pineda. She was the former wife of Robert Edward Smith Jr.; and was the companion of Robert Scott Roop.

She attended St. John School as a child, and was a 1967 graduate of Westminster High School. She was a teller at PNC Bank, retiring in October of 2013. Prior to the bank, she worked as a manager at the Westminster Jiffy Mart, as cafeteria manager at Linton Springs Elementary School, and also as the bartender at the VFW Post 467.

She attended the Edgewood Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the Hanover Home Association, five time past president of VFW Post 467 Auxiliary, a life member of VFW Post 8806 Auxiliary in Union Bridge, of the American Legion Auxiliary in Woodsboro and a former member of the New Windsor Lions Club. She enjoyed spending time with family, flower gardening, cooking and making large quantities of homemade soup for her family and friends. She also liked crocheting blankets, taking bus trips with friends to the Longaberger Basket Company in Ohio, day trips with friends and watching John Wayne movies.

Surviving, in addition to her companion and former husband, are children and spouses Michael and Michelle Roop, of Westminster, Timothy and Angela Roop, of Taneytown, and Kitty A. and Jesse Owings, of Westminster; stepdaughter Lisa and husband Rodney Davis, of Taneytown; siblings Carmen and husband Tom Cashman, of West Friendship, and Jose Pineda III and companion Donna Ernst, of Finksburg; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Leatherman, of Edgewood Church of the Brethren, officiating. Interment will follow at Pipe Creek Cemetery.
