Pikesville Senior Center honors volunteers

The Pikesville Senior Center Volunteers are very vital, important, extra special people! They give unselfishly of their time, to help and assist whenever and wherever needed!

Pikesville Senior Center, under the leadership of Judy Finifter, director, and Karen Bowling, assistant director, coordinated an enjoyable lunch to say "thank you!" to their dedicated volunteers with 50 plus volunteer hours!

Judy and Karen sincerely appreciate the 95 volunteers that volunteered for a total of 8,000 plus hours of volunteerism between last September 2011 through September 2012! A gargantuan thank you to all! Volunteers are essential in being a big help in making Pikesville Senior Center run very smoothly! Note, there are many more volunteers with less volunteer hours.

In appreciation, Pikesville Senior Council sponsored this lunch.

Because these volunteers are so very important and very special, listed are the names of the Centers dedicated volunteers with 50 and plus hours.

Exceptional volunteer hours were contributed by Sandra Ashkenas, 314 hours; Vicky Becker, 262 hours; Lorraine Berkowitz, 213 hours; Kathy Brummett, limitless hours as both a talented instructor and volunteer; Irv Cohen, 125 hours; Betty Feldman, 153 hours; Elaine Hurwitz, 208 hours; Hannah Krauss, 371 hours; Viv Nusholtz, 327 hours; Shirley Rhone, 673 plus hours; Estelle Roll, 353 plus hours; Jackie Stern, 308 hours; Dorothy Wapner, 388 hours!

"Todah Rabbah!" Mega Thanks! Each and every one, including those with less hours. Everyone is very special and appreciated!

Baltimore County Department of Aging has done a fab job of keeping seniors active, involved and motivated! All Baltimore County senior centers, not only Pikesville, but all senior centers have a wonderful community of volunteers that want to be part of and want to be involved with their individual centers and many do give generously of their time. And, all the senior centers do appreciate everyone's involvement!

Senior Center Home Teams

Home Team is a service for people in the community ages 60 and over who need assistance to remain independent in their homes. Volunteers are matched with a person to provide one or more of the following: friendly visits, telephone chats, escort trips, shopping assistance, light housekeeping chores also correspondence assistance. Request: If you are interested in volunteering. Or, if you are a senior interested in being partnered with a volunteer, please call your area Senior Center Home Team coordinator.

Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly

Exciting! Our Baltimore community is delighted and proud to host the 2012 Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly, for women, Sunday November 11th through Tuesday, November 13th at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Thousands of delegates from around the world will visit Baltimore!

Sponsored by The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore and the Jewish Federations of North America, Assembly this is an opportunity to learn/explore the Jewish world, shop and dine. Cost is $75. Note: Discounted rates are available for the full conference and for one day only.

Even if you are not registered for the General Assembly, you can explore during public hours: Sunday, Nov. 11 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. or Monday, Nov. 12 from 3:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center. There is a $25 entrance fee.
