Poe House open for his birthday

The Edgar Allen Poe House and Museum in Baltimore will be open to the public free of charge this weekend in honor of the writer's 205th birthday.

The museum is usually closed during the winter months but will open for the special occasion from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today and on Poe's birthday Sunday. Dramatic readings of the author's works will take place periodically in the house, where he lived from 1833 to 1835.

Poe is known as an author, poet, editor and literary critic. He is considered part of the American Romantic Movement. He is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre and is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
