Senior Julian Norfleet scored a career high 31 points while dishing out 10 assists to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 104-84 win at Norfolk State Friday night.
The Mountaineers made a school-record 18 3-pointers in the victory.
A native of Virginia Beach and playing just 10 minutes from home, Norfleet finished 11-of-13 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range while adding 10 assists and four steals in the game. It was the Mount's first points-assists double-double since Jeremy Goode had 17 points and 10 assists against LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 16, 2010.
Rashad Whack chipped in 23 points, hitting 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
Will Miller hit all five of his 3-point attempts to match a career-high with 15 points. Gregory Graves added 11 points and five rebounds while Byron Ashe tallied 10 points for the Mountaineers.
The Mount (4-9) was on fire from 3-point range the entire game, hitting 18-of-25 (.720) from beyond the arc. The 18 3-pointers break the school record of 17 set against Bryant on Feb. 14, 2013. After hitting 10-of-14 3s in the first half, the Mount was 8-for-11 on three-point attempts in the second half.
After seeing Norfolk State (8-7) cut the Mount's 22-point halftime lead to 80-65 with 7:56 remaining, the Mount responded with the next eight points to seal the win. Miller hit a pair of 3-pointers with Prescott adding two free throws during the run.
For the game, the Mount shot 68.6 percent, hitting 35-of-51 shots. Norfolk State shot 59.3 percent from the floor in the loss.
The Mount started the game on fire, hitting 10 of its first 11 shots to take a 25-21 lead with 11:44 left.
The scoring continued for the Mountaineers as a Whack 3-pointer with 3:54 left stretched the margin to 47-28.
Whack added a pull-up jumper off the glass, and Norfleet had a steal and a lay-up to give the Mount its biggest lead, 59-34 before Norfolk State's Anell Alexis converted a 3-point play made it 59-37 at the half.
The Mountaineers are back in action when they open Northeast Conference play Jan. 9 at Fairleigh Dickinson.
