Letter: Forum set for District 8 race

On April 3, the citizens of Carroll County will go to the polls to vote in the presidential primary election. Unfortunately, many will be surprised that the name Roscoe Bartlett is not on the ballot for Congress. Carroll County has been redistricted and is now in two new congressional districts.

The Manchester area has been placed in the 1st District, which extends from Frederick County , across the northern part of the state and down the Eastern Shore. People who live in Manchester will now be represented by the same Congressman as the people in Ocean City. The current incumbent is Republican Andy Harris.

Most of Carroll County is now in the 8th District, which goes from Northern Carroll County all the way to the border with Washington, D.C. The current incumbent who represents the 8th District is Democrat Chris Van Hollen.

Running in the primary to represent the Republican Party for the 8th District are Dave Wallace, Ken Timmerman, Shelly Skolnick and Augustus Alonza.

In order to give Carroll countians an opportunity to meet and question these candidates before the election, the Carroll County Republican Central Committee has arranged for all of them to be at the Winfield Fire Hall, located on Liberty Road next to South Carroll High School, between Md. 97 and Md. 94.

Congressman Andy Harris will be there to speak and introduce the candidates. It will be held on Thursday, March 15, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

This may be your only chance to meet the candidates, as I know of no plans for forums or debates before the primary.

In order to properly accommodate , we need to hear from you in advance. There is a small charge to cover the cost of the hall and desserts will be served.
