Flash flood watch issued due to moisture associated with Andrea

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Carroll County through 8 p.m. tonight.

Rain, possibly heavy at times, is expected today and tonight with 2 to 4 inches possible. Some isolated totals of 6 inches can be expected, according to the National Weather Service. This may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas and small streams.

The most significant rain is expected from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The moisture is associated with Tropical Storm Andrea, the first named system of this year's Atlantic hurricane season. Andrea made landfall along Florida's West Coast Thursday evening with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.

As Andrea tracks over land, it is expected to lose its tropical characteristics as it moves northeast. The center of Andrea is expected to pass over Eastern Virginia and Southern Maryland today and remain southeast of Carroll.
