Winfield fire company continues tradition of meal on Mother's Day

The Winfield fire company will host a Mother's Day dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in its hall.

"Our Mother's Day dinner seems to have turned into a tradition. We look forward to serving the mothers in our community along with their families as well as the surrounding community," said event chair Kevin Warner.

Each mother will receive a carnation, while the flower supplies last, Warner said.

The all-you-can-eat buffet will consist of fried chicken, fried shrimp, beef, pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, glazed carrots, rolls and butter, iced tea, coffee, water and lemonade.

The cost is: adults, $15; 6- to 12-year-olds, $8; children younger than 6, $4; and carryout, $16.

There will also be a bake table, with assorted items for sale at an additional cost.

Half-price for moms

The Lisbon fire company will have an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the station.

The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, toast, chipped beef and sausage gravy as well as an assortment of beverages.

The cost is: 5 and younger, free; 6- to 11-year-olds, $4; and adults, $7. Mothers may eat for half-price.

Hanging flower baskets will also be available for purchase.

The fire company is at 1330 Woodbine Road, Lisbon.

Spring Fair

The Winfield Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization will have a Spring Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17, rain or shine, at the school.

There will be family entertainment, games and prizes, raffles, a dunk tank, a silent auction and book fair.

There will also be a bake table and food provided by the Winfield Inn available for purchase.

All proceeds will go directly back to the Parent Teacher Organization for general projects at the school.

Taylorsville meeting

The Greater Taylorsville Area Citizens' Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Taylorsville United Methodist Church.

Sen. David Brinkley and Del. Kelly Schulz will be the guest speakers at this meeting. They will discuss actions taken by the 2014 Maryland General Assembly and will be available for questions and comments.

This is a free meeting and open to the public.
