Bill to change the use of toilet facilities by customers
State Sen. Joseph Getty, R-District 5, has sponsored a bill that would change the permittance of customers to use toilet facilities at retail establishments.
Senate Bill 555, would require retail establishments that have bathrooms only for its employees to allow people with certain medical disabilities to use the facility.
According to the bill, the customer is defined as an invidiual who has Crohn's disease, ulcerative colities or any other inflammatory bowel disease, or any other medical condition that requires immediate access to a toilet facility.
Currently, an establishment allows the use of its employee bathroom if it has 20 or more employees, a provision that is too high, Getty said.
Under the bill, the facility would be made available if three or more employees are working at the time the customer requests use of the facility.
The bill was introduced Feb. 3 and a hearing is scheduled for March 1.

Participants in the program will be identified by a program decal placed on the vehicle.
The bill is co-sponsored by Carroll County Delegates Donald Elliott, R-District 4B; Susan Krebs, R-District 9B; Justin Ready, R-District 5A, and Nancy Stocksdale, R-District 5A. The bill has been crossfiled with Senate Bill 890, sponsored by State Sen. Norman Stone Jr., D-District 6.
Bill to modify use of speed control systems in work zones
A bill is being proposed in the House and Senate that will change the way speed control systems can be used in work zones.
House Bill 326, would permit the use of a work zone speed control system to record the images of motor vehicles traveling on a highway only when a worker is present on the roadway, median divider, or shoulder within or adjacent to the work zone.
