When the William Winchester Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met March 7 at Cockey's Tavern in Westminster, guests were five students from Carroll County high schools who were finalists in the DAR Good Citizen essay contest.
They read their essays, which were on the topic "How does one's personal heritage affect one's duties to our nation?''
The students were: Kelsey Allen, Francis Scott Key High School; Kayla Mosby, Manchester Valley High School; Kendall Noel, South Carroll High School; Taylor Sheely, North Carroll High School; and Christiana Sasser, Westminster High School.
Each of the students received the DAR's Good Citizen's Award.
Kendall Noel wrote the first-place essay, as chosen by the judges.
