Meredith Mercer, a student at Winters Mill High School, won second place in the 6th Annual Reginald F. Lewis Museum High School Juried Art Show, sponsored by the museum, the Maryland State Education Association, and the Maryland State Department of Education.

This year's artistic theme is Dr. Martin Luther King's Legacy: Have We Progressed? Mercer's artwork is a mixed media collage that features a charcoal drawing with a copy of a speech by Dr. King serving as a background. Mercer received a cash prize of $200 for her artwork. Her art teacher at Winters Mill High School is Holly Ferraro.

Selected works will be exhibited at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore from Jan. 12 through March 2. The art exhibition will then travel to the Maryland State Department of Education for exhibit from March 17 through April 18. The winners also will be featured in the museum's publication, Journeys, as well as the brochure for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Celebration.
