Library Schedules (Oct. 16-22)

Westminster library branch

The Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library, 50 E. Main St., Westminster, will offer the following programs this week. Registration is required only where noted. For more information, call 410-386-4488.

Tuesday

Read and Play: 11 a.m. Ages birth-24 months. A story time featuring lap games, tickles, bounces, and rhymes followed by a playgroup for meeting and mingling. Siblings welcome. With an accompanying caregiver.

Story Pals: 10 a.m. Ages 2-3. A theme-based story time featuring interactive and age-appropriate stories, songs, finger plays and activities. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Evening Story Time: 7 p.m. All Ages. End your day in a special way. This story time, open to all ages, introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Year-Round Family Story Time: 1 p.m. All ages. This weekly story time introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Ghost Walk: 6:30 p.m. Ages 10-Adults. Join us for a ghost presentation and evening stroll through Westminster to visit our local ghosts and legends. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles. Children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration for this program begins 10/4/2012.

Friday

Come Learn with Me @ the Library - Narrative Skills: 10 a.m. Ages Birth-5. Please join us for a playgroup for children and their caretakers to learn and play together. This special program will feature a variety of play centers and will include time for reading, artwork, lots of play and plenty of surprises, all while building skill development and school readiness. Space is limited and registration is required. Please register children only, but an adult is expected to attend with the child. In partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Westminster. Registration for this program begins 10/5/2012.

On My Own: 10:30 a.m. Ages 3-6. A theme-based story time for children who are ready for an independent, small group experience. All adult caregivers are welcome.

Hyronomous A. Frog - The Frog Prince: 11 a.m. All Ages. Schools out. Grab your friends and family and come see the hilarious play Hyronomous A. Frog: The Frog Prince, performed by the talented drama students from Carroll Community College under the direction of William Gillet. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Registration for this program begins 10/5/2012.

Saturday

Barns of My Childhood: 2 p.m. Ages 12-Adults. Come meet filmmaker/author Jonathan Slade as he screens scenes from his documentary Historic Barns of Maryland. He will also read excerpts from his memoir Barns of My Childhood and share other stories about what it's like to be a barn-crazy Carroll County boy in a rapidly changing world. Registration for this program begins 10/6/2012.

Special Olympics Young Athletes Program: 9:30 a.m. All Ages. Carroll County will be starting the Special Olympics Young Athletes Program, which helps children ages 2-7 build and develop motor and foundational skills through a variety of play activities. The Young Athletes program is designed for children with intellectual, developmental, and closely related disabilities, but is open to family members and friends who are also under 8 years of age. Digital Photo Books: 7 p.m. Ages 13-Adults. Learn to create your own digital books, from selecting your theme to adding your photos and telling your story. You can create a book of your vacation memories, sports endeavors, a gift for that special someone or whatever you choose. Bring a laptop to learn on the spot or take your new scrapbooking skills home with you. Registration for this program begins 10/8/2012.

Growing Up Wild: 10:30 a.m. Ages 3-7. Join us as we explore nature and science together. Help your child discover the wonders of the world around us. Children age 3 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
