Frances F. Horst, 87, of Hagerstown

Frances Frizzell Horst, 87, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at home.

Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Marston, she was the daughter of the late Charles Ray Francis Frizzell and Evelyn Louise Garver Frizzell. She was the wife of the late Lewis Samuel Horst.

She was a 1945 gradaute of Hagerstown High School. Along with her husband, she was the co-owner of Horst Milk Transfer, a local trucking company for more than 50 years. She also restored and co-owned the Wilson Village (Rufus Wilson home, store and one-room school house), and was active in saving and restoring several historic sites in Washington County.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, where she served on the Church Council, the Outreach Committee, and was a Sunday school teacher for the Sunshine Class for many years. She was also a member of the Clear Spring, Washington and Carroll County historical societies.

Surviving are daughters Susan Neal and husband Clayton, of Saluda, Va., Sally Quiver, of Chaleroi, Va., Rebecca Horst, of Midlothian, Va., and Amy Stenger and husband Mickey, of Hagerstown; sisters Joanne Rider and Sharon Frizzell, both of Hagerstown; grandchildren Kate and Andrew Neal, Gary and Matthew Quivers, Laura Ziegler and spouse Jonas, and Nickolis and Gretchen Stenger; and great-grandchildren Addison and Emerson Ziegler.

She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Gary Quiver.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. G. Stanley Steele officiating. Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.
