RACE: 25-lap World of Outlaws 410 Super Sprint Feature

WINNER: Daryn Pittman, Owasso, Okla.

RACE NOTES: The initial start of the feature was called back when Steve Buckwalter spun his car. Daryn Pittman started on the pole and wired the field. Pittman was in control followed by Joey Saldana when a caution came out with four laps recorded for a stopped Logan Schuchart on the backstretch. Pittman chose the inside lane for the ensuing double restart but the yellow again quickly came back out when the action resumed for a three-car tangle in the first turn involving Donnie Kreitz, Pat Cannon and Paul McMahan, who had been running sixth. After the restart the balance of the race went non-stop with Pittman leading Saldana, Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz and David Gravel toward the rear of the field as the race neared the hallway point. But rather than begin taking chances by trying to navigate through the traffic and forsake the inside line that was being favored by virtually the entire field, Pittman was content to back off on his progression toward the backstretch and chase the tail for the final 14 laps. Pittman's strategy allowed his pursuers to creep in on his bumper but with the field locked down to the inside lane there was no chance for anyone else to make any progress for position. Kinser lost the motor and dropped out of third with 12 laps to go, moving those behind him forward one spot. With five laps to go, the front six and eight cars were under a blanket racing through the same set of turns at one time headed for the checkered flag. Pittman took the win $8,000 and his fourth World of Outlaws tour victory of 2014. Saldana finished second, Donny Schatz third, David Gravel fourth and Stevie Smith fifth

RACE: The Morgan Cup 30-lap World of Outlaws 410 Super Sprint Feature

WINNER: Daryn Pittman, Owasso, Okla.

RACE NOTES: Daryn Pittman earned the pole by winning the dash. Pittman grabbed the lead with Don Kreitz Jr. and Lucas Wolfe dueling for second spot repeatedly during the mid-stages as Pittman edged out to just enough lead as the pair scrapped. Kreitz gave close chase of Pittman when action got started and the race went nonstop to the finish. Pittman stayed glued to the inside groove as Wolfe raced around the outside cushion. Wolfe raced into second for the first time with nine laps away. On two different occasions Wolfe drew up on Pittman's bumper as the pair crossed under the backstretch bridge but both times Wolfe fell just short of the lead. Kreitz came back on Wolfe for second on the 16th lap only to give it up on the next lap to Wolfe again. With 10 laps to go Kreitz was back in second, still trying to close on Pittman as the race worked through traffic. With nine laps to go Wolfe was back in the runner up spot only to see Kreitz again secure the spot just before the final lap. Pittman took advantage of the race for second between the pair to slowly edge out to about a one-turn margin at the finish. Kreitz finished second, olfe third, Stevie Smith fourth and Donny Schatz completed the top five. Pittman's win also secured the Morgan Cup trophy for another season for the World of Outlaws circuit. The trophy will be put on display at the outlaws headquarters in Concord, N.C. until the cup contest is run again at next May's Williams Grove event. Pittman's victory was worth $17,000 boosting his two-day total to a cool $25,000.

RACE: 25-lap ESS 360 Sprint Feature

WINNER: Mark Smith, Sunbury, Pa.

RACE NOTES: Outside front row starter TJ Stutts grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and was chased by fourth-place starter Cody Keller. The race was halted on the third lap for a backstretch crash involving eighth-place starter Jamie Collard, 10th-place starter Shawn Donath, and 18th-place starter Duane Mausteller. Duane Mausteller was air-lifted to the Geisinger Medical Center and Jamie Collard was transported by ambulance with undisclosed injuries. Donath was not injured in the crash. When the race resumed, Stutts continued to lead over Keller, seventh-place starter Mark Smith, 12th-place starter Pat Cannon, and sixth-place starter Jason Barney. On a lap 10 restart, Smith and Cannon drove past Keller for the second and third spots. Stutts and Smith then dueled for the lead only to make contact on the frontstretch, which sent Stutts into a wild spin into the first turn. On the lap 12 restart, 14th-place starter Jason Shultz showed a lot of speed and stormed into second. Shultz and Cannon then dueled for the position while Keller remained a close fourth. With five laps to go, Keller took third away from Cannon. Smith was victorious by 2.2 seconds over Shultz. Keller finished third, Cannon fourth and 17th-place starter Steve Poirier fifth. Smith's third win of the season and eighth career win at Selinsgrove was worth $3,000. At the time of this report Mausteller remained in critical condition. Get well wishes go out to him and his family. Jamie Collard is expected to be released on 5-21-14.
