Legion riders raise scholarship funds

Members of the American Legion Riders from Reisterstown's Post 116 participated in a Legacy Run motorcycle ride from Indianapolis, Ind. to League City, Texas between Aug. 18-22.
The Legacy Run is a fundraising effort by the American Legion supporting the Legacy Scholarship Fund, a scholarship established to support the children of military personnel who have lost their lives. According to the American Legion, $49,950 in aid was distributed to students in 2012.
In total, the the Legacy Run raised more than $764,000 for the fund. The Legion Riders of Post 116 raised $2,000 for the fund. The members of Post 116 were joined by newly elected National Sons of American Legion Commander Joe Gladden.
Tim Clarke, of the Legion Riders, said the event is both a fundraiser and a way to raise awareness of the scholarship.
"You'd be surprised how many people, including military people don't know about the Legacy Scholarship Fund," Clarke said. "But when they see all of the bikes going down the highway, they start talking."
