Food pantry opens at Lazarus Church

The Lazarus Church re:deem Food Pantry will be open on Saturday, January 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Lazarus Church, 5101 S. Church Street in Lineboro.

The re:deem food pantry opened its doors on Saturday, December 15. "We gave away several bags to everyone that came but we were having people in the community stop by with donations at the same time. We got ourselves replenished as we were giving away; more than replenished, probably five times as much as we gave," Carol Kicas, a Lazarus Church congregant and member of the church's Missions Committee, said.

Kicas said that the pantry currently offers canned and dry goods as well as household items such as diapers, wipes, toothpaste, soap and cleaning products. However, the pantry has partnered with has partnered with First Fruit Farms, a Christian ministry in Freeland, Md., that is dedicated to feeding the hungry with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Kicas said the pantry has gotten a lot of support from the community and businesses in the community. "People just like that a community is helping the community, I think," Kicas said.
