Man charged with DUI, possession with intent to distribute

A man was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and other related offenses Sunday.

Michael Scott Reed, 24, of the 4700 block of Alesia Lineboro Road, was attempting to tow his girlfriend's vehicle from the front yard of a residence where it had become stuck in the snow and then became stuck himself, according to charging documents. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Fridinger Mill Road in Westminster, at approximately 7:45 a.m.

Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene and found the two vehicles unable to leave the property, according to the documents, and allegedly observed that Reed appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. When questioned, Reed allegedly told deputies that he had been drinking at a friend's house prior to attempting to tow his girlfriend's vehicle.

A deputy administered standardized field sobriety tests and placed Reed under arrest for driving under the influence, according to the documents.

During the process, a second deputy had entered the front driver's side of Reed's vehicle to locate the keys and conduct an inventory before the vehicle was towed. According to charging documents, the deputy allegedly recognized a strong odor of un-burnt marijuana, which he traced to a bag located in the back of the vehicle. The deputy allegedly discovered a glass jar with individual bags of suspected marijuana as well as a digital scale.

Reed is being held on $25,000 bail at the Carroll County Detention Center.
