Adat Chaim Congregation:

Despite the freezing cold weather, more than 50 congregants, friends and chocolate revelers attended a fun and interesting chocolate dessert demonstration, by friendly and handsome Chef Ryan Asher, son of Tina and Buddy Asher, members of Adat Chaim. Ryan is a proud graduate of its Hebrew School.

A graduate of Baltimore Culinary Institute in 2007, with tenures at Marriott International, Tidewater Inn and Tremont Plaza, Ryan is also a pastry chef, at a French Bistro, PB Boulangerie, in Wellfleet, Cape Cod, Mass.!

Chef Ryan's interesting and informative Cooking with Chocolate 101 demo included interesting facts about choosing the right chocolate, storing and melting, cocoa powder natural v.s. Dutch processed, decorating with chocolate curls, and shavings; plus using dark chocolate tidbits - semi-sweet, bittersweet, milk chocolate, white chocolate, in baking.

There were a lot of inquiries from the men and women attending this fab chocolate demonstration. And, every question asked was answered to everyone's satisfaction by Ryan.

Plus, as an added bonus, everyone taste-tested everything Ryan prepared! There was enough for everyone to sample! The end result? Delicious! Plus, everyone received a copy of the recipes, of all the goodies he prepared.

His tasty dessert menu included orange-coconut macaroons, flourless chocolate cake that can be used for Passover, meringue, classic chocolate truffles and Pot De Crème. Plus there was a separate table of additional yummy goodies prepared by Ryan, available for everyone to enjoy, at the conclusion of his original demonstration and taste testing.

He spent a lot of time preparing and baking. Everyone was impressed and appreciative for his many hours and preparation of the many great desserts!

Special thanks also to his very attentive and helpful assistant, Cathy Litofsky. Assisting Cathy at times, was Adat Chaim Congregation's new Rabbi David Greenspoon.

Art Wolf is president of Adat Chaim congregation; Al Mendelsohn, vice president; Jerry Newman, second vice president; Jaci Schoen, recording secretary; Lynn Ruddie, financial secretary; and Dan Satisky is treasurer.

Thank you Chef Ryan for an enjoyable tasty dessert evening!
